Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be addressing a press conference at 4 pm today to give details of the Rs 20 lakh crore-stimulus package announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address to the nation on Tuesday night.

In her press conference, Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to give a break-up of the Rs 20 lakh crore-relief package.

On Tuesday, PM Modi while announcing the package said India should now aim to become self-dependent. This, he said, will require certain reforms that will act as India’s pillar of growth in the future. The package will include reforms in some existing land and labour laws besides additional liquidity support to jumpstart the bruised economy.

Nirmala Sitharaman will be addressing her press conference at 4 pm today at the National Media Centre.

The Indian economy, like that of most countries, has crumbled under the weeks-long lockdown necessitated by the coronavirus pandemic. India has been under lockdown since March 25. Initially, the lockdown was to end on April 14, completing a 21-day period. However, as novel coronavirus cases continued rising, it was extended till May 3, and later to May 17.
