The Ministry of Finance, to battle the coronavirus lockdown, has transferred more than Rs 36,659 crore through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) from between March 24 and April 17 and benefitted over 16 crore beneficiaries, Department of Expenditure data revealed.
These transfers have been done through Public Financial Management System (PFMS) in the bank accounts of 16.01 crore beneficiaries.
A break-up of the transactions shows that Rs 27,442 crore was given under Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS*) and Central Sector Schemes (CSS), while, Rs 9,717 was transferred by state governments for its welfare schemes.
Amongst the total 16.01 crore beneficiaries, 11.42 crore benefitted under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme and Central Sector Schemes, while, 4.59 crore benefitted under state governments’ schemes.
As per data of the Department of Financial Services, Rs 500 was also credited to women account holders of Jan- Dhan accounts under the PM Garib Kalyan Yojana.
Till April 13, the total number of women beneficiaries stood at 19.86 crore, which resulted in the disbursement of Rs 9,930 crore.
According to the data, the maximum amount — over Rs 17 crore — among the Centrally Sponsored Schemes has been given under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) to 8.43 crore beneficiaries.
PM-Kisan is followed by the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Guarantee Program (MGNREGA), under which Rs 5,406 was disbursed among the accounts of over 15 crore beneficiaries.
If one talks about state government schemes, topping the charts are Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, where, under the education department, Rs 1,884.66) crore has been been given 1.52 crore beneficiaries.
Uttar Pradesh government, under Kisan Pension Yojna/Old Age Pension Scheme, has given out Rs 707 crore rupees more than 53 lakh beneficiaries.
